New Essay Series: Don't Call It Love

In this essay series, I am going to write about different situations and scenarios where abusive behavior masked itself as love. We have all been there or watched someone we know go through this. We may even wonder aloud why they are unable to see the truth that is right in front of them.

Bougie Girl: Courtship Essays-Conclusion

They say that the key to a successful and long-lasting relationship is to never stop courting one another. It can be difficult to prioritize those precious date nights when the whole household is sick with the flu from Hell, things are crazy at work, and/or you are juggling a million other things in your life.

The last thing you want to do is exert any additional effort to things that are not absolutely urgent.

Trust that date nights, little niceties, and a great sense of humor can all go along way in keeping your relationship healthy during the darkest of times. Hold onto your courtship at all costs.

Bougie Girl: Reconnecting

Today comprised of hanging out with grocery shopping, hanging out with good friends, and getting my hair done. I capped it off with a viewing of the "Suicide Squad".
The movie was better than I expected and it was a great way to unwind. Tomorrow will be filled with errands and a quick trip to visit my mother.
At first, I was reluctant to take this weekend off because I only have about 6 weeks before I take my first foster placement.

I woke up this morning with a feeling of determination.
The next few weeks are going to be filled with preparations and spreadsheets. But, I am more than ready for this new chapter of life to begin.

Bougie Girl: Renewal

I have been working hard to stay consistent with my diet and workout routine. In addition, I have made huge strides in other aspects of my personal life. I feel closer to the core of who I am.

I have also noticed that my stress level has gone down significantly. My old ways will not work for my new life and I am embracing it.

Bougie Girl: Vote!

Earlier this week, I voted. To be honest, I thought about skipping it altogether. I did not want to get up early and drive through a maze of construction to cast a ballot in a primary. Alas, I thought about all the people whom fought and died for me to have the right to vote.
Suddenly, I felt a burst of energy surge through me.
