Arts: The Charm Of Live Music

Earlier in the week, a couple of friends and I attended a Third Eye Blind concert. We stood in line for what seemed like forever. The icy November winds whipped around us and caused momentary lapses in our conversation.
An hour later, the Texas based opening act Hydra Melody took the stage and I was impressed with their energy and the clever lyrics of their songs.

Most notably, their haunting song entitled: "California" struck a chord with me. It made me think of the relationships which I had to break off during the early 2000's because of  my decision to move to California.

The auditorium is on the chilly side and we spend a majority of the evening singing and dancing whilst wrapped up in our winter gear. Still, I had a blast singing along to the classic Third Eye Blind songs such as: "Jumper" , "Never Let You Go", "Semi-Charmed Life" amongst others.

NaBloPoMo: 2013 NaNoWriMo

I had such grand plans to spend my days blogging and my evenings writing that novel which has been loitering on the periphery of mind. I envisioned myself exhausted but, ever so much nobler for taking up the double challenge.

Unfortunately, reality stepped in and outside responsibilities forced me to choose between blogging and novel writing. I guess there's always next year...right?

NaBloPoMo: My Silhouette Has Changed...

Three months ago, I made the decision to stop relaxing my hair.

As a result, my silhouette has radically changed.

My former silhouette framed my face and fell long past my shoulders.

My current silhouette goes in a more skyward fashion.

NaBloPoMo: I Am Thankful For...

I am thankful for the following things:

1. Family and friends
2. Clarity on my career path
3. Several unanswered prayers
4. Necessary endings
5. New beginnings

Happy Thanksgiving!

We are close relative of the Trophy Wife....only men prefer not to marry us.

They are too scared to taint us with the eventual mundane reality of marriage.

No, we are the ones relegated to Fantasy Woman  status.

NaBloPoMo: What I am Moving Towards...

Honesty Monologue: What I am Moving Towards... by Bougie Girl Apparel
I am moving towards a time in my life in which what others think about me grows less important by the moment.

I am moving towards the ability to laugh at myself and foibles.

I am moving towards a forgiveness of myself for past missteps because they brought me to a higher understanding which I lacked before.

I am moving towards an acceptance of my empathic gift of intuition which always seems to protect me from unwise decisions and less than savory people.

Proud Member Of The Self-Worth Brigade... by Bougie Girl Apparel

Hello. I am a proud member of the self-worth brigade. We are the unofficial guardians of your self-worth. We encourage you to value yourself on a regular basis. However, despite our best efforts, sometimes you  still choose a path of devaluation and heartache. In these instances, we never completely abandon you. Instead, we lie dormant and wait for the ideal time to remind you of our existence.

NaBloPoMo: Netflix, I Can't Quit You!

Dear Netflix,

I can't quit you! But, to be truthful, I haven't really tried too hard to do so. Each week, I discover a television series which I had somehow missed when it was being aired on broadcast television.  Thanks to you, I discovered television shows such as: Supernatural, Haven, Warehouse 13, Eureka, Lie To Me, House of Cards (American version) and Dresden Files to name a few.

Now, don't go thinking that I spend a majority of my time just watching television episodes. I use these television shows as background noise whilst I write/edit blogs, clean my house, organize my schedule, and/or other tasks.

Love Always,
Bougie Girl

This year's NaBloPoMo came in like a lion... and I was ready for it. Yet, now in the homestretch, I am struggling to stay in the game. All of my creativity seems to be drying up little by little.

NaBloPoMo:Fighting For What I Can't Have...

Fighting For What I Can't Have... by Bougie Girl Apparel

I see what I want...yet, I know that I can't have it. Still, here I am fighting for this thing that I know is not meant for me.

NaBloPoMo: Browsing Around

I was just browsing around...I swear. I wasn't really looking for anything specific...well, maybe I was looking for the reason behind her sudden coldness. Like, one minute she's all into me and the next moment, I have become demoted to someone that she happened to know once upon a time two weeks ago.

She's not answering my calls or my texts and I can't help but, feel like she's looking for my replacement. She's done this once before whenever she felt confused by her feelings for me and our situation. I keep telling her that I will change.

I promise to be the man she knows that I can be. But, it's difficult. I mean, I have been rockin' this tale of woe for a long time know. She can't really just expect me to give it up. It's the story of my life. I mess things up and I run away when life becomes overwhelming.

She has always known how I am. Why won't she just let me go? I need to hit bottom. I mean really go so low that only I can bring myse…

NaBloPoMo: Kickin' Through Autumn Leaves

It's been a warm Autumn here in the Rolling Plains. The leaves are stuck on the pavement but, balmy breezes still whip through my hair.

NaBloPoMo:The Care And Feeding Of A Harem...

The Care And Feeding Of A Harem by Bougie Girl Apparel

Harems ain't cheap. They can take a financial, emotional, and a physical toll on a man. That's why I try to choose high quality low maintenance women. The kind with fancy jobs and no real desire for commitment.

NaBloMo: Jaded vs. Wisdom

Jaded and Wisdom Shirt by Bougie Girl Apparel

Jaded. That's what they call you.  You are one whom knows how to kill a buoyant mood with a depressing anecdote about one of your psycho exes. They don't understand that you are using said anecdote as a cautionary tale about love gone super psycho. You are not so much jaded as you are wise.

NaBloPoMo: Undercover Success...

Undercover Success... Tee Shirt by Bougie Girl Apparel

I am sitting in a coffee shop clacking away on my laptop. They are standing on the edge of my peripheral vision. I can make out faint voices but, I do not bother looking up. The writing muse is a jealous one. She will not stand for being ignored even for a brief moment. The whispering grows louder and I turn to see two well-dressed late 30ish women staring at me.
Upon a closer look, I recognize them from high school. They look perfectly preserved in a way which denotes wealth and privilege.  As soon as  I make eye contact, they saunter over to size me up.  They take in my loose mid-length ponytail, yoga pants, and black hoodie. They also take a gander at my ringless left hand. They exchange a smile between one another and then fire up their "mean girl" routine.
"How are book sales?" The shorter one asks
"Good, I suppose." I reply.
The taller one sneers at my response. "Well, at the end of the da…

NaBloPoMo: Eat My Dust Dark Energy!

Eat My Dust Dark Energy! by Bougie Girl Apparel

As you may know, dark energy has a bit of a crush on me. It pursues me down long corridors at pretty fast clip. It is seeking to suck the lightness out of my very being. But, I am too smart and quick to let dark energy overcome me. Its characteristic long strides are no match for mine.

Yellow Flowers

I spied these flowers just a few weeks ago during an afternoon stroll in my neighborhood. I was surprised at the resilience of these flowers. Still hanging in there in the midst of autumn.

NaBloPoMo: Speaking Strictly On A Soul Level...

Speaking Strictly On A Soul Level.... by Bougie Girl Apparel
On a soul level, things are so clear and loving. In the real world, there is distortion and deceit. Still, souls will always find one another...even if they really should just walk the other way. In the real world, he is the furthest thing from my ideal man. Too many reasons to state how and why he fails to float my boat.  Yet, on the soul realm we are inseperable and neither one can explain it. Yet we always seem to look for one another there. We go off on adventures into murky

NaBloPoMo:Kingston Station

One of the things that I loved most about living in New England was taking the train to Boston. The trip from Rhode Island was usually packed with work commuters, families, and drunk college kids.

NaBloPoMo: Unattainable

Unattainable T-shirts by Bougie Girl Apparel

One of the things that I love about you is that you are unattainable. I admire how we dance around our true intentions with one another. A flirty smile here and a casual finger brush there. I am looking for a lifetime partner and you are seeking a temporary conquest. Yet, neither one of us will admit it this to ourselves or each other.

NaBloPoMo: Attacked By Biblical Verses

I am on an online forum having a slight difference of opinion with another poster.
Out of nowhere, they started firing biblical verses at me and I had no idea how to react. My initial reaction was to laugh because who knew that a prime-time TV show could inspire such a biblical filled diatribe against me?

I respond back with a question mark because I am not sure how the particular biblical verse applied to the matter at hand. I was greeted with another biblical verse which still didn't seem to apply to what we were previous discussing.

At that point, I gave up on responding because I knew that I was going to make fun of them. Not because they were quoting the Bible but, because said verses did not apply to our conversation. The poster then  tried to call me out on the forum for my lack of a response to their Biblical attack. Well what happened next was ridiculous.

Other posters dissed my opinion and threw even more unrelated biblical verses at me. My response was to delete my ac…

NaBloPoMo:Exploring the "Scandal" Love Quadrangle: From Jake's Point-of-View

I didn't mean to fall for Olivia. I had no idea that Fitz was in love with her. I gotta be honest, I am not sure that I would have cared either. That's not disrespect to Fitz but, Olivia is one of the most dynamic women I have ever met in my life. Women like her don't come around every day.

NaBloPoMo: Do Not Become One With Crazy!

He has come crawling back to you once again. He is filled with remorse...just like always. Still, you stand there readily accepting this round of apologies. You feel optimistic that this time around things will be different. You will no longer have to root through his phone searching for evidence of other women. He has promised to be honest and forthright.

But, he is lying to you. Both of you know it. You are a mere temporary shelter for his restless heart. You will have a much better chance of surviving this reconciliation if you succumb to the fact that he lacks the ability to love anyone.

Yet, this time whenever he fires up his habitual campaign of disrespect and rejection, something inside of you will snap. You will see all of the years that allowed him to treat you like a relationship truckstop of sorts. During those lonely nights when he is "working late", Crazy will beckon you to join it. It will project images into your mind of all his broken promises and lies.

NaBloPoMo: Sisterhood Of Self-Worth

Sisterhood Of Self-Worth by Bougie Girl Apparel

Self-worth is an established pillar in our soul. So, why do we insist on treating it as a passing fancy? "I am worthy!" We declare at the top of our lungs whilst rockin' the latest fashionable feminist slogan. We lock arms, march together, and chant empowering slogans. We proclaim the importance of sisterhood and yet we are at loss for how to authentically convey it.

NaBloPoMo: Cocktail O' Crazy

Cocktail O' Crazy Tshirt by Bougie Girl Apparel

They called you crazy because you dare to voice an unpopular opinion. They called you crazy because you refuse to settle for a man whom will never cherish you just to be in a relationship or heaven forbid a marriage. They called you crazy because you are 100% comfortable with who you are as a woman.  Now, they are asking you for the secret ingredient for your cocktail o'crazy. Will you reveal it to them?
Cocktail O'Crazy Recipe -A dash of daring -A sprinkle of crazy -A truckload of self-worth - A sprig of obliviousness

NaBloPoMo: Agreeing To Disagree

I am not afraid to take an unpopular position on a topic. I am also not above playing Devil's Advocate when the situation calls for it. This tends to anger both my feminist "sisters" and my conservative friends.

NaBloPoMo: Sisterhood Is Key

During my college days, there were more than a few female classmates whom I clashed with and yet, I still had their backs. I can recall many situations in which I escorted these female nemeses back home safely after a night of hardcore partying.

On more than a few occasions, they returned the favor. The next time we saw one another, we exchanged a cursory node and mumbled words of thanks to one another. We stood up for another in the moment and didn't wait until something occurred to show belated support via social media.

We weren't afraid to call the cops or parents when things go out of hand. We called one another out and about our risky behavior. We weren't coming from a stance of judgment but, from a place of concern and basic human decency.

NaBloPoMo: Disempowered Feminist

Disempowered Feminist Tee Shirt by Bougie Girl Apparel

Where  exactly did my power go? Back in the day, I remember marching on behalf of the sisterhood. I recall giving empowering speeches to younger women about the importance of educating themselves and their children. I encouraged stay at home moms to keep the sisterhood going by volunteering and staying current on the struggle. I spoke to working women about fighting for flex-time and part-time opportunities in their respective workplaces. These positions help other women return to the workforce if they so choose.
Isn't feminism really about women choosing how they wish to lead their lives with support from their sisters?
At least, that's what it used to be about.
Now, we focus our attention on whether or not women are body shaming us with memes on their Facebook pages, we enter into flame wars about younger moms vs. older moms, and we pick on young celebrities for their conduct at award shows...completely forgetting our o…

NaBloPoMo: Exploring the "Scandal" Love Quadrangle: From Olivia's Point-of-View

I fell in love with a brilliant, caring, and very married man. It wasn't something that I  planned to do. From the beginning, we tried to stay away from one another. But, it was of no use. We were intensely drawn to one another. I left my coveted position at the White House to get away from him. Alas, our paths kept crossing and we just stopped resisting. I feel terrible for Mellie and the kids. Loving Fitz is both the best and worst part of my life.

Fashion: The Elegant Kimono

I first spied this lovely kimono about a month ago during our local Japanese festival. I was struck by its simple yet, ornate appearance. I recall years ago, wearing kimonos as dressing gowns and for date nights.  You can find kimonos on eBay, Etsy, Japanese specialty shops, thrift stores, and even flea markets.

What Does A Sense Of Family Look Like? by BougieGirl Apparel

What does a sense of family look like to you? Is it a feeling of kinship which can only occur between blood relatives? Or does the feeling of kinship go beyond  DNA?
