I am a bougie girl: The Scary Road To Creativity

Creativity can be scary...because once you walk upon its road there is no going back to the way things were before. Each time you veer of Creativity road to follow more mundane pursuits, you find yourself longing  to be back on it.  Sometimes, getting back on it can be both difficult and scary. Your family, day gig, or other responsibilities can put your creativity on a tight time budget.
If you step back onto Creativity Road after a long hiatus, you may worry that opportunities have already passed you by. Also, it may seem that the other path walkers are WAY ahead of you on Creativity Road.
The good news is that it is never too late. You may have to adjust your grand creative visions to something more easily scalable.
As far the other path walkers...wish them well and move forward towards your own destiny.

i am a bougie girl: Antique Locks

This is the door to an antique desk that my paternal grandmother passed onto me.
Currently, it resides in my basement as a catchall for important documents and resting place for old family photographs.
I have no idea what the key to this desk looks like but, I imagine that it is very officious looking and a bit on the imposing side.

i am a bougie girl: Glassware Turned Toothbrush Holder

After years of scrubbing out  ornate toothbrush holders and then eventually having to throw them out once they reached the cleaning point of no return.   I purchased this glassware to act as my toothbrush holder. It's stylish, easy to clean, and it coordinates with my bathroom decor.

Forty Three and Counting

43 and counting.

i am a bougie girl: Corporate Life And Design

Last week, I sat staring at the floor thinking about how corporate design has been such a huge influence on my life. Five days a week, I am exposed to stark furniture and lots of clean lines.

i am a bougie girl: Renting By Design

Over the years, I have come to appreciate the uniformity of rental spaces. This is the knob for my bedroom closet. Last year, I was tempted to add a splash of color over it via  a fabric covering.

However, I decided instead to focus time and energy on figuring out the placement of my bedroom furniture.

And also to determine my storage situation.
In hindsight, keeping the closet knobs in their original unadorned state ensured that my bedroom would not end up being over decorated.

i am a bougie girl: Sequinned Evening Bag

My blue sequinned bag had gotten my through almost a decade of black tie dinners, wedding receptions, banquets, and other formal affairs. I purchased it years ago from Name Brand Clothing in Topeka, KS. Sadly, that store branch closed. However, I am always on the lookout for another reasonably priced sequinned evening bag.

i am a bougie girl: Changing The Vibe With A New Lampshade

The original base for this lamp is wrought iron. Alas, the wiring in the lamp became faulty, which meant that I had to retire the strong and elegant base. (Pictured below)

The new lamp base changes the vibe of this piece from focal point to muted accent piece.

i am a bougie girl: More Next Steps...

I logged onto my podcast account earlier today, only to be informed that I would no longer be able to use the hosting platform for free. At first, I was angry because I have been podcasting through this particular hosting platform since 2006.

However, the more rational part of me was relieved in so many ways.

My next steps with podcasting are not clear but, this incident has made me see just how much writing has taken a backseat to other creative pursuits.

Perhaps, it is time for writing to become more a central focus in my life.

i am a bougie girl: More Storage As Design...

I took an upside down wire wastebasket and placed a necklace stand on top of it...the result is another storage as design piece. Total cost of this design element is a whopping six dollars.
