i am a bougie girl: 6 Saturday Night Queries

1. Why do some people try so hard to cultivate an image of relationship bliss on social media?
2. Why do some people with kids shame those whom have chosen to remain childless?
3. How come I am happier in 40's versus my 20's and 30's?
4. When did dating become a bloodsport?
5. Why am I unable to comfortably sleep in past 7 am?
6. When am I going to finish my multitude of book manuscripts?

I am a bougie girl: The Wonderful World Of Photo Filters

I just to be anti-photo filter. Now, I accept that there are some days in which I want to soften my hardened edges.

i am bougie girl: Welp...

I had such big plans to write this extensive blog about my awesome day attending a poetry reading...then, I accidentally deleted my email inbox. So, for the next few hours, I will be painstakingly going through my deleted items folder to save important emails.

Happy Saturday to me.

i am a bougie girl: The Last Flowers Of Summer..Extended

Summer has come and gone. Though, she seems reluctant to completely let us go.

All around the KC metro area, there are flowers still in full bloom.

Currently, my wardrobe is a mix of open-toed shoes and puffer coats. The weather starts of cool in the morning and by day's end, the sun is out in full effect.

I am certain that a few weeks from now, the cooler temperatures will be sticking around throughout the days and nights. The days will become shorter.

Eventually, the petals will fall from the remaining flowers.

But, for now I am going to enjoy these unseasonably balmy days and snap photos of those brave flowers.

i am a bougie girl: One Night In Weston

I am headed to Weston, Missouri to dance and make merry with friends whom I have not seen in awhile. Social media fools into thinking that we are keeping in touch with many people.

Yet, the truth is that we are only seeing tiny snapshots of their lives. We are either viewing their highlight reel or witnessing the way in which life is beating them up. There is no in-between on social media.

i am a bougie girl: Choosing Spinsterhood

There comes a time in every woman's life when she has to admit to herself that she would rather choose spinsterhood then settle for a BS relationship and/or marriage. My decision to choose spinsterhood came after a few failed engagements and the keen observation that I was gripped more by the desire to be a mother than to have a husband.
For the past couple of years, I have struggled with the guilt of not really wanting to be married at all. I have no idea what would have happened if my engaged relationships would have resulted in a marriage. Perhaps, I would have just smiled, gave it my all and ignored the nagging voice inside of me.

i am a bougie girl: Good Party Energy

Earlier this evening, I attended a celebration of life party for a close family member taken too soon by cancer. The guest list was a hodge podge of folks from different walks of life. We spent most the evening talking, laughing, eating, and drinking good wine.

I have no doubt that my aunt would have enjoyed tonight's festivities. Afterwards, she would have headed out to listen to a blues band and play the slots.

The party only lasted for a few a hours but, it will stay in my heart for months to come.

Take My Idea Please: School Lunch Inclusion

During my elementary school years, I would forget my sack lunch at least once every other week.

On those days, I ended up charging my lunch and paying for it the next day. I did not have to endure the indignity of having a crappy sandwich with a side of attitude from the school staff.

My mom docked my allowance for the charged meal and over time this seemed  to remedy my sack lunch forgetfulness.  However, in the 21st century, they do things a little differently.

Children are given the equivalent of a cheese or peanut butter sandwich and sent on their way. Everyone is outraged and yet, what are we doing about this? Sure, we can preach about parents being more responsible and kids needing to "toughen up". But, what if the child is on prescription medication which requires more calories in their system than a cheese sandwich?

We need to come up with a process of system in which the child is still fed a full lunch without bankrupting a school district's budget.

i am a bougie girl: Basements and Bridesmaids dresses

My basement is filled with boxes, laundry baskets, bookshelves, and old bridesmaids dresses.

Brides to be always swear that you will someday be able to wear the bridesmaids dress again. Technically, you can put it on again but, wearing it out in public may be a bit of a stretch.

I first wore this dress back in September 2014. At the time, I was about 45 pounds overweight.
Since then, I have lost about 30 pounds and the dress is falling off me in all the right places.

Still, I really love its halter style neckline and the soft fabric.
